A smooth wedge A is fitted in a chamber hanging from a fixed celling near the earth's surface. A block B placed at top of the wedge takes time T to slide down the length of wedge. If the block is placed at top of wedge and the cable supporting the chamber is broken at the same instant then the block will :a) Take longer time than T to slide down b) Take shorter time than T to slide down c) Remain at top of the wedge Do provide reason.

Let's think about this. What force drives the block down the wedge?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gravity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indeed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we cut the rope, what force drives the chamber towards the earth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1333856538814:dw| |dw:1333856655893:dw| when the supporting is broken then a pseudo force mg will act on the block. hence net force on the block will be 0(i.e acceleration of the block =0) hence if the block is in the rest on the top then it will remain in the rest on the top....c)
