On which interval is the following function increasing? f(x) = 3x2 + 24x + 14

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Write it into vertex form first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f'(x) =6x +24 Function will increase where it's derivative is positive so solve 6x +24>0 6x>-24 x>-4

OpenStudy (experimentx):

a parabola??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, any function :)

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

It's a quadratic function; don't confuse him with calculus 0.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

increase means for positive increment of x there is positive increment of y dudes

OpenStudy (experimentx):

to add up @myko, dy/dx will be your slope slope = 0, means means straing slope >0 mens increasing and slope <0 means decreasing and using this you will find interval. x=-4 ,,, you will have slope zero, x<-4 you will have negative slope.
