A student tries to solve \[\sqrt{x+4}=\sqrt{x}+4 \] by squaring both sides and gets x+4=x+16. Why is this not correct?

because on right hand side a formula is being applied\[\large (a+b)^{^{2}}=a ^{2}+2ab+b ^{2}\]
