Whats the difference between area and surface area?or are they the same? if they're not, could you tell where's the difference, as simple as you can please, I'm too confused, (any sketch example would be great!) ... Thanks in advance .

I think that legally the area of a piece of land does not take the contour of the land into consideration. However if the land in question was hilly there would be a large difference between the area (in the legal sense) and the surface area. Not sure if this observation helps.
Surface area often implies a three-dimensional object, while area suggests a two-dimensional region.
