What characteristic do the nucleus, the mitochondria, and the vacuoles of animal cells have in common? They all create energy while doing their tasks. They all contain some of the cell's DNA. They are all enclosed by membranes made of phospholipids. They are all involved in producing food for the cell.

If you take a look in a textbook you'll see that all the structures mentioned above are discrete from the cell cytoplasm. In other words they're separated from the rest by something - that's a hint...
