Help would be very appreciated!!!!! The kidney are efficient at balancing the blood pH. It is critical that blood acidity remain constant. If excess hydrogen ions are present in the blood acidity, the kidneys secrete the hydrogen ions. What effect would this have on the pH of urine?

OpenStudy (blues):

Do you remember what pH is?

OpenStudy (blues):

That's one you should try to remember as it is simple and very, very important. pH is by definition a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions (i.e., protons, or hydrogen atoms without their single electron) in a solution.

oh...okay i get it now. sorry my brains just really fried, i havent slept in two days studying nonstop. :( Okay so now that i get that, can you help me with the rest? :)

OpenStudy (blues):

The question tells you that the concentration of hydrogen ions in the urine goes up. Given that the pH is directly proportional to the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution, what happens to the pH as the concentration of H ions increases?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The acidity concentration would go up?

OpenStudy (blues):

A pH going down is associated with acidity; a pH going up is associated with alkalinity...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah sorry, easily confused. ha.

OpenStudy (blues):

All cool. So as the concentration of H ions goes up, the pH increases and the alkalinity of the urine increases. Good luck with whatever you're studying for and get some sleep. :D

Awesome, thanks for the help i really appreciate it. Your the best! XD
