what is the first derivative test?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

taking the first derivative of a function helps you determine critical points and invervals of decrease and increase. if a function f is differentiable, critical points (i.e. cusps, turning points) will happen when f'(x) = 0 or undefined. also if f' > 0 on (a, b) the function is increasing on (a, b) and the opposite is true for f' <0

okay, what is the second derivative used for concavity?
