when doing f statistical by hand what df do you use?
Well it does depend on what test you are using, but I'm going to assume you are doing an ANOVA right? the F is the explained variance over the unexplained variance (or the between group variability over the within group variability). In ANOVA the explained variance is the mean sum of squares of the treatment while the unexplained variance is the mean sum of squares of the error. Have a look through these slides and it may make more sense to you :) (annoying giant link lol) https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:bneZhK7SLRUJ:www.calvin.edu/~rpruim/courses/m243/F03/overheads/ANOVAf03.ppt+f+statistic+anova&hl=en&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESheAaC0mF3ZQ5SoLZ5wuUnnMY1xUnKCgsK77oeozxJ_caQlKaAAPzVGrnb48BI8VSTdMN2P5lYfnTeckvDiaNAigzaGiYYEiseIRv2XWI1pgeR-q4IRq0ureD_n1DbDdIbggFo0&sig=AHIEtbRnMRkbtl76KI51hp2jbAG0gdbzNg
