evaluate 45-16 2/3
29 1/3
@kay94 did you understand??
@ash2326 no i dont understand
Okay We have \[45- 16\frac{2}{3}\] the second term is a mixed fraction let's convert it to a normal fraction \[16 \frac{2}{3}= 16+ \frac{2}{3}= 16 \times \frac{3}{3} +\frac{2}{3}= \frac{48}{3}+\frac{2}{3} \] \[=\frac{50}{3}\] so we have \[45-\frac{50}{3}\] to add or subtract we need to have the same denominator. Dividing and multiplying 45 by 3 \[45 \times \frac{3}{3}-\frac{50}{3}\] we get \[\frac{135}{3}-\frac{50}{3}=\frac{85}{3}\] this can be converted to a mixed fraction. First divide 85 by 3 28 ________________________ 3| 85 -84 __________________ 1 so we get finally \[28 \frac{1}{3}\]
