An 80 kg man is standing on snow in tennis shoes that have a surface area of .02 m^2. How much pressure is his weight exerting on the snow? Can someone please show how you did it, please and thank you!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the definition of pressure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alrighty. It is defined as\[P = {F \over A}\] What force are we considering? What is the area that is distributed over?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the force of the man on the snow, over a surface area of 0.02m^2. And pressure is defined as the normal force to an area per unit area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly. so\[P = {mg \over A}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so: (80(9.81))/0.02?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area should be doubled due to two shoes..
