- Weather is a great example- everything is based on physics and math - Scaling: insects are small because of scaling proportions (surface area/volume ratio is high). Another way to think about this is, why are elephants' ears so big? Their surface area/volume ratio is small so they are unable to get rid of excess heat. They have big ears to create LOTS of surface area for a LITTLE volume within. It all comes down to math
