Explain why each statement might be true or might be untrue. Tell if each is an example of inductive or deductive reasoning? Justify your answers. 1. All men are mortal. Joe is a man. Therefore Joe is mortal. If the first two statements are true, then the conclusion must be true.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. You are only mortal if you believe in God, and do good things for him. You go to heaven. Sorry if this is WAY off topic!

@MusicalAnimal y-what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this math??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, on a more serious note, if being a man is one class, and being mortal is another class, and the class "man" exists entirely within the class "mortal", Joe being in the class "man" necessitates that he is in the class "mortal". Yes, this is deductive logic, I'm pretty sure. Logic is math. QED.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's QED?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's something people say when they pretend to be smart.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

QED is sth like quod erat demonstrandum..
