what happens during anaphase

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! Do you know what happens leading up to anaphase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are quite a few things happening in this stage - the chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell being the main, characteristic change. Also, the protein that hold the sister chromatids together in metaphase (called cohesin) is digested by a protease called separase. The activation of separase is brought about by the cleavage of the protein securin. I hope this helps you understand this stage of mitosis.
