factorise the 2nd fraction (x+3)(x-3)/(x +9)(x +11) the problem is now [(x + 11)(x+3)(x-3)]/[(x + 3)(x + 9)(x + 11) common factors of ( x +3)(x+11) can be cancelled leaving (x -3)/(x+9)
