Find all points having an x-coordinate of 9 whose distance from the point (1,4) is 10.

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know the formula used to find the distance between 2 points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D= square root of (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2

OpenStudy (phi):

Use (it does not matter which, but we have to choose one pair) (1,4) to be (x2,y2) and (x1,y1) is the other point. They give us x1=9. So (8,y1) is the 2nd point. Can you put these points into the formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be (9,10) and (9,-2)??
