What is the order of √5 , -0.1, -5/3 , 0.7, √2 from least to greatest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative then positive .. try

OpenStudy (espex):

Put them in terms that are easy to understand then then sort. For example, you know that the sqrt of 4 is 2, so sqrt of 5 is a little over 2+ the sqrt of 1 is 1, so the sqrt of 2 is a little over 1+ -0.1 is really -1/10, so you know it is a little less than 0 -5/3 is -5 divided by 3, so you know that is -1 2/3.. But remember that negative numbers get 'smaller' the 'larger' in magnitude. 0.7 is 7/10, which is a little less than 1- So you're left with : 2(+) 1(+) 0(-) -1(-) 1(-) Now sort. :)
