I just found out that I have a serious infection in my tooth and I have to take multiple antibiotics to get ride of it. My question is though, are the antibiotics supposed to make my immune system stronger to fight the infection or are the antibiotics fighting the infection themselves? And I also read that antibiotics can cause problems with my heart and blood pressure and can even some times cause respiratory problems? Is this true?
it makes me a little scared because I already have heart and blood pressure problems...
Antibiotics fight the infection itself by disrupting regular activities of bacteria, such as DNA replication or cell wall synthesis. Side effects vary by the specific antibiotic, though severe ones like those you mentioned are pretty rare. You should, however, consult with your doctor to be sure.
That's what I'll do then, I'm just really cautious when it comes to my health and I don't want to take any chances. Thanks for the intel... :)
