The coloration of Adelie penguins is very simple compared to some of their more colorful cousins. Their coloration could also be compared to that of some predatory fish (for example, the great white shark). Develop a logical argument for how they are similar and why this is beneficial.

Consider the specific pattern as well when you're thinking about this problem....the dorsal side of both animals is colored (either black, or gray) whereas the ventral side is not. When you're on the bottom of the ocean looking up on a sunny day...what stands out against the bright water? A white organism or a colorful one? Alternatively, when you're on top of the water looking down at the bottom, where less light is available...what stands out more? A white organism or a dark colored one? The net effect then is that they are less likely to be spotted...such a benefit is essential to both predators and prey.
