What use are matrices?

Because right now they seem to me a little arbitrary, just a more complicated than normal tabulation of values.

I agree with you, but someone said that "They are used a lot in statistical modeling as in linear models. Also, in integer programming and operations research, and linear programming, as in economic and business and scientific models. Also, for transformations in computer graphics and font manipulation" I don't know if that helps, but there you go :D

learning how to use matrixes is a bit timeconsuming; but they do make computations easier and quicker when programming computers
