What are the solutions of the equation? Graph and check the solutions. | x | + 10 = 1
there are two solutions of this equation
what are they
do you know how to open modulus?
x = 9 or x = –9 i think its this
and no
yes it is.
i had it right and i change cause i second guess myself
now can you plot the graph?
yes and thanks for helping me
welcome friend.
wait... | x | + 10 = 1 has no solution because this would mean | x | = -9. there is no x that will make this true.
@dplnc take it as a function and plot it. like this.|dw:1334173886818:dw|
graph of |x| is |dw:1334173955493:dw| and in the question it is +9 this means graph is shifted 9 units up.
the graph of f(x) = |x| + 9 is that graph you posted. but the question is: "what is the solution to | x | + 10 = 1"
yeah.. and there will be two solution to this equation as i said above. when we open mod then we write it with - and + so function will give two solution but for both of them y will always be positive . as it is a piecewise function (|x|)
|dw:1334174134328:dw| notice the graph of y=|x|+10 and y=1 are shown.... finding the solution to | x | + 10 = 1 means where do these two graphs intersect. they don't.... so no solution...
