The to and bottom are circles of diameter 28ft. The area of a circle is \[A=\pi *r^2=\pi * (14)^2=196 \pi\]Since there are two circles we multiply by two:\[392 \pi\]Now we have to add in the rest of the surface area. We have a rectangle with\[A=2 \pi (14)*(36)=1008 \pi\]adding the two areas we get the total surface area for the cylinder:\[1008 \pi + 196 \pi=1204 \pi \approx 3781 ft^2\]
