For the following data set, the box in a box-and-whisker plot is drawn between which two numbers? 18, 18, 8, 17, 16, 5, 9, 8, 8, 12, 17

OpenStudy (amistre64):

q1 and q3 right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you have 11 data points; and we want that divided up into 4 parts (quartiles) 11/4 = 2.xxx q1 is then the number in the 3rd spot when they are sorted low to high 11*3/4 = 8.xxx q3 is then the number in the 9th spot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not in the answer choices

OpenStudy (amistre64):

whats not in the answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont see any of what you got as an answer choice

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats becasue your spose to follow the directions i laid out ini order to actually come up with the answers.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what did you come up with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh , i thought you already solve it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in my head, i have :) sort the numbers low to high; then pick the 3rd and 9th numbers for your box ends

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but idk how to do it :(

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you cant sort the numbers from low to high? or cant count to 3 or 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmao , i can but im lazy

OpenStudy (amistre64):

me too ;) wolfram sorts fast tho; just paste your line into wolframalpha.com and itll sort it for you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it might even pull out the quartiles too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 8 and 17?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i believe it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure?

OpenStudy (amistre64):
