If you wear latex gloves, they'll provide no protection from heat and could possibly melt to your hands. An open flame does not give a consistent heating good for conducting a scientific experiment. If you seal a gas and then heat it up, all the air inside will bounce around, causing the pressure to increase which can cause the test tube to explode shattering glass everywhere into everyone's eyes because everyone was too lazy to use common sense and think through why doing any of the things they were doing were unsafe but hey, at least they totally knew that the answer was 4 to that one question, RIGHT?
