grade 12 vectors. How do I get this vector form of a line r=(2, -2, 1) + t(1, 2, -1) into scalar form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not sure i understand, the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have an example of scalar form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Scalar is Ax + By + Cz + D = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see, okay, i'm guessing your were given some vectors to begin with right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The questions is "Find the shortest distance between the point (4, 0, 1) and the line r=(2, -2, 1) + t(1, 2, -1)"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh, i think i got it! I have to find the direction vector from the point in the line and the point given and find the normal by doing the cross product!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, sounds like you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! thank you
