Eigenvectors of [-6 -2;4 -2] So the values are -4+-2i, then figuring out the vectors, lambda = -4 -2i... = [-2 +2i -2; 4 2+2i] and I get stuck as in row reduced form there are 2 rows instead of 1...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is that a 2x2 matrix to start with?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a-L b c d-L RREFs to 1 b/(a-L) 0 0 therefore your eugene vector = <-b/(a-L) , 1>

yep I've seen what you've done, cheers! time for some sleep I think.....
