factor x^2 - 5x - 6 im doing factoring and g.c.f i read that prime if for those who do not have a gfc but here prime is not an option i have x + 2 x+5 x-6 I want to know if this is just factoring and the gcf is not involved and how thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the factor of x^2-5x-6 is (x-6)(x+1) u only use gcf when all the coefficients and the constant can be divisible by a integer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still confused

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

if (x-a) is a factor of any polynomial P(x), then P(a) = 0. SO check from the options for which "a's" the above polynomial gets reduced to zero.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

me thinks, x-6. what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea me too thx ,,
