I think it has to do with your immune system. Your body works hard to fight off an infection, which causes the skin to appear red and inflamed.

Yea, as part of the immune response we release proinflammatory factors that increases body temp in the area etc etc in order to try kill the infective agent as bacteria(not all) have optimum temp ranges that are narrow enough
