Do you need a blood sample to have a DNA test done?(substantiate your answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

blood sample is needed for D.N.A testing. but we may also use blood, saliva, semen, skin nail etc. nearly sample of any part of body!

OpenStudy (blues):

rahulchatterjee is quite right, any sample with DNA in it will do. When police don't have a warrant to actually take a DNA sample but are free to whatever DNA a suspect leaves at the scene of being interviewed, DNA from saliva in chewing gum, on cigarette stubs and, in one case, on an envelope with documents mailed to the police department, have all been used to get convictions.
