who is the father of genetics?

It is rather hard for a field of science to have a parent in the biologic sense of the word. That said, "father of genetics" probably refers to Gregor Mendel who inaugurated the field by measuring expression of traits in pea plants. Especially hard for him to father anything though, as he was a monk.
