What protocol is involved in UMTS ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are many protocols involved in UMTS. UMTS can be thought of in 3 parts, the Air Interface, the Radio Access Network (RAN), and the Core Network. The air interface used in UMTS is W-CDMA. The network protocols are MAP (Mobile Application Part). The Wikipedia article on UMTS is decent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umts. Also, you can check out the architecture document from 3gpp. Between every 2 network elements there is a specified interface. And for every interface there are protocols involved. 3GPP follows the OSI model. http://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_ts/123000_123099/123002/10.04.00_60/ts_123002v100400p.pdf
