I am finishing a project paper and have 5 appendices that are full page pre-formatted documents, such as a letter of approval from an IRB, and a color power point slide in landscape format with small white margins. What is the proper APA way to afix the title of these appendices?
Hi kathy.grannan, When there is one appendix, it is simply labeled Appendix. When there is more than one, assign the words Appendix A , Appendix B , (in your case) through Appendix E to the items organized at the end of your paper. There is only one item allocated to each Appendix. Then, when you reference the document in-text, refer to each item as THAT appendix label. APA does not have a single format for appendices because it will vary due to content. Here is the default (and what is in the 6th ed): to then go with the APA Style & Formatting guidelines. The important thing is CONSISTENCY throughout your paper. What is meant by defaulting to the APA S&F Guidelines is: follow the rules such as 12pt, Times New Roman font, no quotes, no underline, and no bold for the title. Center it - at the top(1in). Capital letter 'A', the rest of the word lower case. Much like you would for the References page - in fact, exactly like you would for the References page. It is your choice (again, depending on content) as to whether you would like to have a blank page titled Appendix A (at the top) preceding your content, or if you would like the heading to be on the same page as the content. Good luck ! (and) Congratualations ! It sounds like you're in the home stretch ! Best, imalinguist
