In your own words, explain why sound waves cannot travel in space.

Sound waves require a medium to travel through as vibrations. Space has no such medium. I think. You should try posting this over in the Physics group - they'll probably be able to give you a much better answer :P

sound travels due to longitudinal vbiration of the particles present in the medium of propagation. But there is no particles to vibrate in the space.. therefore sound cannot propagate in space!!!
