Max/Min Problem. Please help, If you could show me steps so that i better understand, that would be great! :) Problem: A box with a square base and open top must have a volume of 32,000 cm^3. Find the dimensions of the box that minimize the amount of material used.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

The volume is constant, you have to minimize the surface area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the 32000 to find the variable missing from the surface area equation and take the derivative set equal to zero for crit. point(s) and plug into the 2nd derivative to determine if it is a max or min

|dw:1334445875114:dw| so L^2 +4Lh=32,000. h=(32000-L^2)/(4Lh)??
