you should read some good novels. every kind which depicts love, passion, anger, faith, hope , friendship, struggle, aim, and all. power of imagination is also necessary.
till you read about  them or experience them, you can't capture someone in your story. 
a successful story teller is one who takes over the mind of the listener/reader and mesmerizes him.

Next, you want to delve into your favorite topic and think about how this topic can change. Once you got that, you can start writing. Feel free to reply if needed.
