factoring my problem xy- 3x - 8y + 24 so far I did x (y-3) and the 2nd part im confused (y+30? but it has to have something on the outside a gcf would it be 8 ( y + 3) or something close??

Yep, something close. Try changing the signs.

look for a common factor between -8y and 24.... its -8 -8 x y and -8 x 3 gives -8(y - 3)
