Can someone please explain to me what perpendicular means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

90 degrees.

OpenStudy (jlastino):

In equation of lines it means that the slope is equal to the negative reciprocal m=3 a slope perpendicular to that is -(1/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is a negative reciprocal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the context?

OpenStudy (jlastino):

Hmm in fractions getting the reciprocal is basically switching the numerator and denominator so lets say 2/3 the reciprocal would be 3/2 the negative reciprocal will be -3/2

The lines are perpendicular because they form 90 degree angles.
