why is penicilin completely useless for treating infections caused by fugi
All penicillins are b-lactam antibiotics and are used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms.
penicillin inhibit cell wall synthesis, bacterial cell wall that is. fungi dont have the same cell wall - hence it is pointless, and evidently ineffective to try and inhibit it. a major class of anti fungnals - azoles is targeting fungal membrane synthesis, its steroles (similar to our own cholesterol) if i remember correctly. remember - every antiviral/bacterial/fungal aims at disrupting a basic cellular process that is unique to its target (so that the medicine wont inflicit, or will inflict mininal damage on human cells). these processes are usuallt - cell wall synthesis. dna synthesis and proteins synthesis good luck
