why is there no one interested now about unified field theory? how does it works and what are the applications of this theory?
Actually people are. People aim to work on it. They're working on the Higgs-boson particle. Like you follow certain rules at school(actually I don't :P), during chess etc, Nature does them too. The whole world/universe seems to be a game that is based on same basic rules(The Laws of Nature that you study in Physics). The aim of the unification is to find a simple logic that the universe follows, and leads to all the laws that we know. Like Newton's Law of gravitation and Coulomb's Law are similar but they deal with mass and charge-two seemingly different things. Finding a relation between mass and charge is quite difficult. But if it's done, there will be no need of following two different laws. Take this analogy: Suppose the rules of your school are written as: i) Wear neat and clean dress. ii)Wear your school tie properly. iii)Wear your school belt. Instead of three separate rules, it is much easier to state and follow a single rule: Dress properly in school. Ok?
