Fool's (speed) problem of the day: Can you do this under three minutes? In how many ways can cards be distributed to \(4\) bridge players \( A, B, C, D \) such that each one of them has either all \( 4 \) aces or all \( 4\) kings or all \(4 \) queens or all \( 4 \) jacks? HINT: Each player gets 13 cards. [Solved by @apoorvk] PS:An hour ago I just can't see that @apoorvk solution was correct, My apologies to all.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Is it "4!" am i being too fast and too foolish?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yes i am. foolish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36! ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36! * 4! ?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

is it (4! * 36C9 * 27C9 * 18C9)?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

am i anywhere near what they call close?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

2 mins up long time back :/

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

hmm. still trying still trying. will it be "P" instead of "C" or will the entire thing that i posted earlier, be multiplied by a 4!? I think the later so I would say (4! * 36C9 * 27C9 * 18C9 *4!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do we care about the order in which they get their cards?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I won't clarify any more since, this was the exact question I was given in the test.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4! * 36! /13! so that the order of the cards not matter I guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (experimentx):

wild guess in 5 min 4! * 36C9 * 4

OpenStudy (experimentx):

4! * (36C9 + 27C9 + 18C9 + 1) another guess in 1 min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone please explain what 36C9 stands for? I can't remember ever seeing that :-S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ \binom {36} {9} \] how old are you anyways? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, I'm 28, but haven't used any of this in about 10 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great, what were you doing ? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was not studying hard enough apparently :-P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, then me too :P I barely study. I wish I can study more though.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

you got natural talent ... i guess.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

was it the answer ?? 4! * (36C9 * 27C9 * 18C9 * 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nopes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure you haven't made a mistake in your problem? I get the feeling that it should "hours" instead of "minutes".

OpenStudy (experimentx):

I think the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha :P My teacher, "this is a medium grade problem and shouldn't take more than 3 mints to solve"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't solve it in time :( and then he showed me how it's done. The result were enlightening though!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I came to the conclusion that I just don't have it what he wants ...

OpenStudy (experimentx):

Man, you have been in trained in the way of mathematics ... esp with numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your teacher sounds like a sadist.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

okay ... we will wait.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too ;)
