For East and Southeast Asia, you could use examples of the Korean War and the Vietnam War...The US was largely unsuccessful in both of those. The nationalist guerrilla forces in both countries posed as intense opposition. In Europe, you could talk about the division of Germany as well as Berlin into 4 different sectors. Then you have the whole shabang about the Berlin Wall :)

Latin America is the Cuban Missile Crisis which was a failure for them to a certain extent as Kennedy was not willing to think for the benefit of his nation, but for the World as the 13Days loomed above them all and could have led to Nuclear war.

And in the Middle East we have the Arab Israeli Conflict, in which there a lot of events to cover like the Aswan Bank loan which they denied as Egypt which claimed to non-aligned had signed the Baghdad Pact supported and funded by the USSR and also the USA's backing towards thew Zionist movement.

OH that's right. In the middle east, there was also the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan; the US supplied the Afghan rebels with arms and equipment in response.
