Jonathan used the following soil triangle to identify a sample of soil as sandy clay. Explain the characteristics of this soil sample that likely allowed Jonathan to make this identification. Include particle size and texture in your response

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The soil sample would have shown signs of being 35-55% clay, 65-85% sand, it would also have shown small amounts of silt. If you look at the chart it shows the percentages of the amounts of clay, sand, and silt. Sandy clay has a high percentage of sand, a slightly less percentage of clay, and a small amount of silt if any.

I hope that helps.

OpenStudy (fretje):

sandy clay could be for ex. 50%-60% sand and 40%-50% clay, which are particles of size clay = below 0.002 millimeters Very fine sand = 0.05 to 0.10 millimeters Fine sand = 0.10 to 0.25 millimeters Medium sand = 0.25 to 0.5 millimeters Coarse sand = 0.5 to 1.0 millimeters Very coarse sand = 1.0 to 2.0 millimeters
