Any ideas on how to start an essay on Democratic Peace Theory?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what exactly about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about Democratic Peace?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you can bring up the whole theory first and what the theory is, then talk about in history when has conflict arisen in government systems and why, and if it is possible to have peace in goverments...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that how you are doing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to describe democratic peace and then take 3 countries and explain why each one is either democratic or totalitarian or authoritarian and then i have to test this theory by looking at the international relations of each country and i am having trouble with testing the theory to each country and also what important points should i make in my paper in describing democratic peace because my paper has to be 10 pages. I want to know what specifficlaly is key to look at when describing democratic peace?

I think I'd start with defining democratic peace. It's not a subject I study, but one of the criteria might be that the country can't currently be involved in a war. Your own study of the subject (or someone else's superior knowledge!) could provide the other criteria... then dedicate a section (starting by just writing a paragraph) to each one of the countries and evaluating if they meet your criteria or not. Give examples, and some discussion. I think the key to start would be coming up with a nice definition of democratic peace.

The democratic peace theory is a relatively new development. The "democratic peace" is the theory that democracies don't go to war with each other.
