Viola drives 200 meters up a hill that makes an angle of 9° with the horizontal. To the nearest tenth of a meter, what horizontal distance has she covered? a. 1,262.8 m b. 200.4 m c. 197.5 m d. 31.3 m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find this by multiplying 200 by sin(9degrees) If you draw out the triangle you can prove this to yourself with sine law. I got 31.3m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks. That's what I thought it was also, but wanted to verify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait! 197.5m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on a second I'm losing my mind here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I said sine rather than cosine. that's where it's wrong. so because it is an angle with the horizontal you multiply 200 by cos(9deg) this gives you 197.5m
