which of the following provides a constant input of energy that all organisms depend upon? A.secondary consumers B. primary consumers C. carbon D. the sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sun.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ya i forgot about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say the sun. But I'm not sure. My thinking on this is: B) primary consumers are things like plants. They take energy and nutrients and make things from them and then are consumed by secondary consumers. So they do provide energy, but they get energy from somewhere. A) Secondary consumers are us. We don't really provide energy. C) Carbon doesn't really provide energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u probably are right because all organisms depend on sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

While carbon is necessary to the continuation of life, organisms have to take it upon themselves to obtain it. Those that take carbon from their inert sources in their environment are autotrophs, and those taking carbon from other organisms are heterotrophs. Even though some organisms don't directly use the sun for energy, the highest trophic levels (producers) depend on it.
