What is the easiest way to determine the domain and range of a function and of a graph? Can you give me some examples?

OpenStudy (precal):

domain is all the x values that are valid for the function range is all the y values that are valid for the function

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Domain = all valid input for a function. Range = all output of a function. When looking for domain you do NOT want the following: 1) Negative numbers under a square root 2) 0 in the denominator of a fraction 3) natural log of a number less than or equal to zero So if you see any situations where (1), (2), or (3) occurs, then those values of x are NOT in the domain.
