Tough riddle for the bored people >:)) (admins..this is just for fun hehe) @Ishaan94 's teamwork score is 75; his Problem Solving score is 93; his Engagement score is 71, yet his SmartScore is 99. @FoolForMath 's teamwork score is 71; his Problem Solving score is 82; his Engagement score is 70, yet his SmartScore is 99. @Callisto 's Teamwork score is 66; her Problem Solving score is 76; her Engagement score is 65, yet her SmartScore is 86. radar's teamwork score is 68; his problem solving score is 75; his engagement score is 70, yet his SmartScore is 86 @Diyadiya 's teamwork score is 67, her problem solving score is 69; her engagement score is 69, yet her SmartScore is 76 @mimi_x3 's teamwork score is 66; her problem solving score is 69; her engagement score is 70, yet her SmartScore is 76 Create an equation on how these SmartScores were solved in terms of the Teamwork, Problem Solving and the Engagement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice Problem - intriguing!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

Hint: this has nothing to do with mean/average

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmmm i think this is the hardest riddle so far

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

But the formula is not given..its a secret..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lgbasallote Just curious... do you have an answer?

OpenStudy (callisto):

Why was I in your question /_\ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe u can do a regression on this data to figure out the formula....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh oo

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol @Callisto i was just looking at the homepage =))) @Study23 secret ;D :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree. good question. my smartscore took a nosedive couple of days ago.. was it because it was friday the 13th?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol i dont think smartscore was born that time :P the nosedive was because of the tweakings..they are increasing the difficulty of the criteria..the question would just be to create an equation hehe

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

well, if you have the answer; give us a hint..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol no i dont know :)) im curious too...i think fool has a clue to this so i posted this to challenge him =))

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

lol, posting a riddle that you don't know the answer of..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

im entitled to ask questions i dont know as well :P lol

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

then don't call it your riddle :P

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

better? :P

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmmm more info may help...

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

This algorithm is supposed to be a secret, and I'm not revealing it! xD

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

Lol, you know it? :P

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

"Yes, yes, the moderators consider me so special, they presented the formula to me on a golden tray!" Ofcourse, I Don't!!

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

I would prefer facing "Tom Riddle" rather than facing this "tough riddle", anyday lol.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

^i'd give you a medal for that...but i'd like to reserve it to the guy who answers this :P

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

hmm..are you able to use a software to work it out?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i wish we are able to use systems to figure it out @_@

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm who has same smartscore but different teamwork, problemsolving and engagement? except the ones with 99.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is definitely not a linear function.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

.Sam. and phi have the same smart score and same problem solving but diff teamwork and engagement

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

We 'll do something. We 'll feed raw data from SmartScores of a thousand people into a program and see if it cracks it. But now that I think of it, there's more to it than just those 3 scores. (may be our activity, no. of replies per question (testing diligence) and host of other factors).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think dumbcow can solve it. :D He is really good at stats.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

my guess would be collect a large sample and run a huge regression with 3 independent variables

OpenStudy (callisto):

Diya and Mishi too!! same smart score, and problem solving.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Trick questions.... all admins hack their accounts so they can have 99.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

callisto -> radar same smart score..different everything

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

well, i think that there is something wrong with the profile thing I doubt that I have answered 900 questions..

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Yeah there is bug.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the 3 parts will have different weights, i think problem solving is weighted the heaviest there may be some unknown constants in the formula that would be hard to determine of course they may be tweaking the formula all the time as well :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Problem Solving->99 => Question answered > 3k.

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

http://openstudy.com/users/akshay_budhkar Look at his medals ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there may also be some unknown variable that is not mentioned... a Dumbscore for doing stupid things?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh, like what i just did....

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

Akshay got only 1 medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol hmm their system is buggy, I don't think we can determine the algorithm as of now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe we should go back to the old system...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

wow lol =)) pretty sure a former guru shouldnt have those counts :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was much more difficult to get higher score with old system. that's how it should be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BTW anyone who can help me with linear algebra?!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol romero..this is soo hard believe me =)) i can get 1 level per day back then..now i cant

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok after regression, using sample of 8 scores S = 0.74P + 0.2T + 0.22E R square was .99 but p-values were high so coefficients are insignificant anyway its gives a rough formula S = smartscore P=problem solving T =teamwork E = engagement

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Akshay might be the only member whose smart score is less than the other three parameters. I think the new system is based on activity not some actual algorithm. Because lgb has 81 and he is quite active but akshay isn't active, he might not have answered question in weeks. Same is with Jhonny9 he is active a lot on the site. nikvist isn't active much as he only solves the challenging the problems, so he got ranked low, despite the fact he is one of the best problem solvers on OpenStudy. Recently even phi has been very active so he got ranked higher.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am saying while the rest of the parameters like engagement, problemsolving and teamwork might have an actual algorithm. The overall smart score is highly influenced by your activity on the site.

OpenStudy (callisto):

Better hide something here lol. Again here are the stat

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

good point Ishaan in that case there is no tangible correlation and doing regression is pointless

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

but the activity is in the parameters right? it's under the teamwork...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ishaan be cool dude !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the system were only accounting for the three parameters, your score would never have exceeded the parameter's score.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmmm good point...so there is something they're not telling us -__- lol

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yeah @Ishaan94 huge emphasis on activity, am guessing.

OpenStudy (callisto):

Wait, if I don't log in for few days/months, will my smartscore decrease drastically?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

There's a lot more than what meets the eyes.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

I guess so, @Callisto

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes @Callisto smartscore is based kind of like bassed on how you you stand against the others..so if you become inactive then others will go up and you'll go down..kind of like that..yeahhhh i knew how it works :p lol

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

So what's the use of having higher SS now ? If its gonna drop down if you stay away from OS for few days :D

OpenStudy (callisto):

Hmm That's coool~ Then I just don't log in for a long while and I'll score 0, right ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

score ps tm eng score 1.00 ps 0.89 1.00 tm 0.86 0.88 1.00 eng 0.13 -0.02 0.44 1.00 if anyone is interested her is a correlation matrix seems engagement doesn't really effect much

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yeah it doesnt..it's the hardest tolevel up...@Callisto yeah but that'll be a very looooong time

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

My point too exactly, @Diyadiya . Obviously activity should be take into account, but to what extent? If someone's not active for an year, will it sink him to nil? How do our 'employers' see that?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

inactivity -> engagement -> hardest to level up/down in regards to leveling down...i heard that if people overtake you, your level will go down..i think

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well that was fun everyone remember these scores don't really mean that much, just like the medals its all about helping people with math and/or getting help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree. :-)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes :DDD

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Agree three!! =]
