In the parallelogram AXYZ, line segment AT = 4y – 2, line segment TY = 6x -12, line segment TX = 14, line segment ZT = 2x + 12. Find the value of x and y. A. x = 4, y = 6 B. x = 48, y = 28 C. x = 6, y = 28 D. x = 6, y = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm sure you mean parallelogram AYXZ right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevertheless, the diagnols of any parallelogram bisect each other which means AT = TX. now you can solve the equation 4y-2 = 14...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for y... y= ??? do you need help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I need help(:

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other. So, AT=TX and ZT=TY or, 4y-2 = 14 and 6x-12 = 2x +12 Solve those two, get x&y and enjoy!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do I just plug in a number then to find x? I don't get it.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

can you solve a linear equation in one variable like for example, a+3 = 6, so how much is 'a'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

same way we solve 4y-2 = 14 adding 2 to both sides, 4y = 16 dividing both sides by 4 y=4 get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so. So I do that for the two problems then?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yeah solve the same way for the second equation there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got confused again on this. I need to be refreshed on it.
