What is a major difference between a chemical reaction and a nuclear reaction? Only chemical reactions release light. Only chemical reactions can release gamma rays. Only nuclear reactions can change the identity of the atom. Only nuclear reactions release energy.

Only nuclear reactions change the identity of the atom. As soon as one proton (in the nucleus, therefore nuclear) is changed, its a whole new atom!

B, chemical reactions to my knowledge can't excite the nucleus of the atom enough to release gamma rays and all exothermic reactions release energy.
