How long does it take an object to fall down this inclined plane (see picture first)?
|dw:1334795732049:dw| 12 meter ramp, 20 degrees. I got 2.676 seconds. |dw:1334795785243:dw| Totals to 12 meters as well, except it's split up into three sections of equal length. Two are inclined at 30 degrees, while one is horizontal. I got 2.446 seconds. There is no friction between the object and the ramp and zero air friction (forget about whether or not that's possible). Use 9.8 m/s² for the acceleration due to gravity. The reason I'm asking this question because I feel like I made a mistake somewhere. Should the times be the same? They're going the same distance and the average incline of the second situation is 20 degrees... On the other hand, the first ramp accelerates the entire time, whereas the second case only accelerates part of the time. What's the answer?
