4(x-2)=10x-40
a good way to start is to get rid of the 4..how do you suppose you can do that?
make it 4x
right...so then you'll have 4x - 8 =10x -40 the next step would be to isolate x..put it on one side and the constants on the other... so that'll be 4x - 10x = -40 +8 you following so far?
yeah thanks
so combine like terms.. 4x - 10x = -40 + 8 4x - 10x would give you -6x and -40 + 8 would give you -32 so..your equation will become \(-6x = -32\) divide both sides by -6...so x will be alone \(\Large\frac{-6x}{-6} = \frac{-32}{-6}\) -6 will cancel out leaving you with \(\Large x = \frac{32}{6}\) the only thing left to do now is to simplify :D
Oh okay, so it would be -32/6?
no no no..the negative canceled out.. negative divided by negative is positive...also 32/6 is not yet the simplest answer
Oh okay
got it so it would be 5 1/3
